The results from research contacted for Asda by Claro this January show that seventeen percent of UK households have reduced their meat intake or are following a plant-based diet.
Therefore, the retailer is launching more than one hundred new lines of vegan products and will be placing them in a dedicated plant-based aisle.
The searches for vegan food have skyrocketed since last year. The supermarket’s buying experts decided to launch a dedicated vegan aisle making the retailer the first to make this move. The vegan items will be placed across 359 Asda’s stores and consist of one bay of savoury products, including proteins, cooking sauces and condiments, and one bay of snacks and sweet lines.
Sarah Thornewill, Asda’s Buying Manager, commended about this decision:
“We understand that customers want a quick and simple shopping experience, and this shouldn’t be restricted by dietary requirements. By merchandising all our vegan items together, we hope to save customers time and offer inspiration, whether for those following a plant-based diet, or those looking to reduce their meat consumption.”
